"These professionals are becoming strained," Sean Duffy told Fox News on Sunday, as some flights were grounded on the California shoreline due to staffing shortages.

"I observe the pressure," Duffy said in an discussion on Sunday Morning Futures, adding that he had spoken to several controllers to listen to their worries directly.

"They're taking side jobs, they're out there looking, 'Should I work for Uber, can I find an alternative of earnings to make ends meet?'" he added.

Duffy further mentioned that on Saturday 22 alerts at airports said flights would be held up due to a shortage of workers - among the peak after the closure started.
