Lindsey Vonn Optimistic of Being 'perfectly positioned' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "perfectly prepared" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, following claiming a top-three finish for the fourth time in five World Cup competitions.

The veteran athlete, who recently made history by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her 142nd career World Cup top-three result.

Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere

Competing at the French Alps resort for the first occasion in eight years, Vonn finished the course in a time of 1:20.60. She was just over a third of a second behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing second place.

"I was slightly lacking enough direction on the initial jump," Vonn said. "From that point on, I performed strongly. I'm satisfied with my run today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative."

This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also taken third in the downhill on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Injury

Vonn officially retired in February 2019 because of persistent injuries. However, she made a stunning return in December 2024 following a significant orthopedic procedure.

With just over six weeks remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's form are timely.

She boasts one gold and two Olympic bronze medals from previous Games and is strongly positioned to represent the United States at the next Olympics.

"In Cortina, I will be fully ready," Vonn affirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

Alongside her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has won over a professional journey spanning 20 years.

She currently holds a substantial lead at the top of the overall downhill standings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table.

This current World Cup circuit features a nine more events scheduled before the season finals in Kvitfjell, Norway on March 21st, 2026.
