The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Horror Merging Survival Horror and Among Us Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation revealed several intriguing future games, but one in particular has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience seems to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"This is a unique game where a young woman harboring multiple human souls inside her must escape from a maze of the mind," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of high school age. Within her reside four distinct personas, each with their own anxieties and motivations. These entities can seize control at will, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her without warning.

Judging by revealed footage, much of the action unfolds within a eerie hospital, though additional clips depict the main character exploring a desolate chapel.

An Environment of Personal Dread

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uneasy?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Elements that seem trivial to others can activate something primal within us. This game delves into that concept — fears that are specific to every individual."

The core gameplay loop involves managing whichever soul emerges at a particular moment. However, these identities will switch against your will during gameplay. While exploring, each soul's anxieties become exaggerated and assault the girl in succession. As the persona changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Choice

At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is filled with nurses all sporting the same face, with disturbingly broad grins. Patients in the lobby have enormous blooms growing from their heads are. Flowers are an ever-present theme, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "All four personas asserts that the physical form belongs to them," notes a creator. "During the game, you must determine who is real."

After a player have deduced a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, since each soul can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The final entity remaining might be a fake. In any case, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced launch window, but it is available to follow on platforms.
